In this first chapter we discuss functions of one variable. We start in the first section with some definitions. Then we discuss the class of power functions and polynomial functions, which have a strong relation. In the final section exponential and logarithmic functions are treated. These functions are inverse to each other. This chapter is the basis for all the other chapters in this book.
