In this chapter we discuss the derivative of a function. We start with the difference quotient and show how to use it to define the derivative of a function. Then we discuss the derivative of some elementary functions of one variable. Several rules of differentiation and the chain rule are addressed. Finally, we consider inverse functions and their derivatives.
